In 1939, Father Joseph Emrich founded the Holy Name Band and Choral Club, which later became: The Holy Name Choral Club (1968), The Choral Club of Louisville (1972), and finally, The Louisville Chorus (1987). Joseph Herde succeeded Father Emrich and still conducts the Holy Name Band. Richard Spalding, Conductor Emeritus, lovingly devoted 20 years to the ensemble and made its 1985 European Sister Cities Concert Tour possible.
Daniel Spurlock brought excellence and inspiration for 12 Seasons, and Therese Davis, Executive Director and Pianist, has collaborated with the music directors since 1969, to ensure the successful growth and development of The Chorus.
The Louisville Chorus now boasts the expertise of S. Timothy Glasscock, who accepted the post as Artistic Director in January of 2003.
A member of Chorus America, this professional chorus maintains approximately 50 auditioned singers and performs the widest in varietal repertoire from choral masterworks with orchestra to pops, children-oriented, Broadway, and even Bluegrass. Through our series concerts, fund raising dinner concert events, joint ventures with other arts agencies, commissioned performances, professional CDs, Education/Outreach programs for students, and charity benefits, listeners experience music with life and personality, honoring the finest in choral traditions.
The Louisville Chorus is known for outstanding, diverse and accessible programming; sound management; admirable outreach; and versatility unmatched by any vocal ensemble in the area.
The area's longest thriving choral arts agency continues to maintain its artistic distinction under Maestro Glasscock. The Louisville Chorus imbues Character, Expression and Vitality!

“The program deserves to be repeated!!! Our enjoyment of it was not just of music but of a spiritual nature… Your beautiful performance enriched our lives… Thanks for once again impressing me with the beauty of Christmas by keeping alive the classical works that began the traditions we now have ‘capitalized’ on. Those sacred works deserve preservation by an agency like yours that can present them memorably and lovingly…”
